How To Promote Your Web Site

Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization, which is a craft of modifying a web site to rank highly in search engines, has been around since the first index-based search engines were launched, which is around the mid-90’s.

In the early days, you added popular words to the header tags of each page, and whenever someone searched for those keywords, they showed up in the search engines.

However, search engines have advanced, as well as the search engine optimization (SEO) industry. In order to compete with Google’s army of Ph.D researchers, search engine optimizers struggle to keep up with the latest theories and conjecture about how the carefully-guarded and always ever-changing search engine algorithms work.

Below are some examples of factors that can affect your search engine ranking:

Number of links to your web site from related web sites
Number of years for which your web site’s domain name is registered.
Age of a specific page on the page
Quality of writing on the page
Use of headings within the text
Number and frequency of updates to a page
Use of keywords in the URL
Amount of text on a page
Rate of external linking to your web site
Number of pages on the web site
Domain extension (.com, .net, etc.)
Use of frames, Flash, or PDF’s
Downtime of your web server
Geographic location of your web server

Because it is so easy to cross the line from optimization to exploitation, search engine optimization is one of the most ethically charged branches of the web industry.

The terms white hat and black hat are often used to describe the ethical spectrum of search engine optimization. The terms are derived from old cowboy movies, where the hero and villian could often be identified by the colors of their hats.

Black Hat SEO

Black Hat search engine optimization seeks to expoit the weaknesses of search engines in order to boost a website’s ranking on results pages.

These techniques often rely on artificial means to generate results; such as, deception and redirection. For example, a black hat SEO specialist might create hundreds of pages filled with keyword-rich gibberish for search engines to find and parse, or they might post meaningless comments on hundreds of blogs, all linking back to the main website.

It can be very tempting to employ black hat techniques because they can produce dramatic short-term results to promote your website. However, you should keep in mind, the results are short ter; search engines are always trying to out-think the black hat SEO’s.

In fact, using deceptive techniques can even get you banned from search engines, or at least permanently damage your ranking.

White Hat SEO

White Hat search engine optimization seeks to work with the search engine’s strengths, rather than their weaknesses. This is accomplished by creating valid HTML code, well-written, keyword-rich content, and a carefully organized website. White hat SEO specialists seek to create the kind of website that search engines are looking for.

The strongest beneits of white hat SEO is that it’s always in fashion. It will not damage your rankings like black hat SEO will. It also doesn’t require constant monitoring in order to perform well.

However, because it relies on many soft factors; such as, high quality content, effective website organization, building strong link relationships, blogging, etc. white hat SEO can be more difficult to pursue.

In general, white hat search engine optimization can perform better with less maintenance and reduced risk. it usually makes more business sense.

Inbound Links

One of the most critical and most difficult factors in promoting your website is encouraging other websites to link to yours. If your website has similar or related content to other websites and the more websites link to yours, the more of an authority you become in the eyes of the search engines.

However, because you have little control over other websites, it often takes a lot of person-to-person communication to make these links happen. It’s highly unlikely that strangers will link to you because you ask them to. You need to take the time to establish relationships with other website owners.

Tips for building inbound links:

Ensure that you have a high quality website to which other website owners can feel comfortable sending their visitors to
Create content worth linking to (articles, how-to’s, games, lists, etc.)
Focus on acquiring links from websites with related content
Avoid the black hat SEO technique of artificial link building
Try to get listed in industry directories, association websites, etc
Create your own side project websites that can link to your main business website

Blogging for Business

A blog is a website, or part of a website, that is regularly updated with articles, thoughts, opinions, etc

In recent years, many businesses have found that blogs have provided a significant boost to their website, thereby, often becoming a primary source of traffic for them.

The reasons that blogging can be a powerful marketing tool:

People love fresh, interesting, and useful content

It’s unlikely that anyone will link to your About Us page, but if you write an insightful top ten list about your industry, hundreds or thousands of people may link to your within a matter of days.

Journalists, increasingly, look to blogs to get a sense of what’s hot, and regularly posting industry-related blog articles can help you generate free media coverage.

The constant infusion of fresh, keyword-rich content will give your website a boost in the search engines.

It keeps people coming back to your website

Poor blogging is easy to do. Before you start, spend some time reading existing blogs particularly within your own industry. Think about what you like and dislike about them.

How To Promote Your Online Business With Articles

Write Articles

The goal is to make progress. Make it your goal to add at least one new content page per week. Even with such a modest goal, you will manage to have added over fifty quality pages. The more pages, the more traffic you can expect to receive.

Research your keywords thoroughly. Your business can profit from more keywords you might have initially believed. Study the keywords Internet searchers type into the search engines to find products and services related to your market.

Write articles with your target keywords in mind. Then, post them to article directories. Articles directories allow authors to include links to their websites in their bylines. Links to your site with the appropriate anchor text can worth their weight in gold. You drive traffic to your site while you are building your reputation. It’s a double whammy.

Volunteer to write articles for other websites. You should contact non-competing complementary sites and volunteer to write articles to be posted in return for a link back to your site. Web masters are constantly searching for new content, and most of them will welcome the trade. As long as your article is quality content, you should have no problem getting your articles published on other peoples’ websites.

Submit your articles to online newsletters. Many newsletters are archived. The archived articles will contain your link pointing back to your website. A good technique to be published in a newsletter is to provide free content. Don’t ask for a link back the first time you make contact. Most newsletter publishers will offer anyway.

Study the source of your traffic as you write more articles. Evaluate what search terms people use to land on your website, and base your future articles around those search terms. If you have built your website around your accounting practice, and you find that most people landing on your sites type tax related search terms to find you, then add more articles about tax related topics.

If you come across a website with great content, volunteer to become a columnist. As an expert in your field, you can excel at writing. As a columnist, you will be recognized as an expert in your field. Most likely, the site you are writing for will allow you to post a byline with a link back to your site.

How To Promote Affiliate Products From Your Blog

An extremely effective, low cost and low risk way of making money from your blog is to promote other people’s products as an affiliate. By merely linking to the merchant’s website with a special link provided by them, you can make commissions over and over again as your blog grows in traffic and popularity.

Although you can promote both physical and digital products, I prefer the latter as they typically pay more commissions and are easier to sell. Here are a few ways that I have personally used to make $500 – $2,000 in sales of affiliate products every month from my blog:

1) Interview The Product Owner

Who better to answer questions and clarify doubts on a certain product than the owner himself? By arranging for an interview with the owner or a representative, you get to be the middle-man and ask the most important question on behalf of your blog readers.

You can conduct interview easily using Skype and a recording software that integrates with it. Once recorded, you need to do some minor editing using Audacity, a free audio editing software. If you’re using Wordpress as your blog platform, you can easily install some podcasting plugins and get the whole thing up easily.

The key to selling affiliate products using podcast interviews is to ask the right questions. It works much better if you’ve already bought and used the product, so you’re familiar with how it works and any limitations it has.

During the interview itself, make sure you mention your affiliate link. Also write a short description of the podcast on your blog post and put your affiliate link there.

2) Write a Complete Product Review

This is not something new, but it’s rarely done by most of the new affiliate marketers I’ve come across promoting my own products and other people’s products that I happen to be promoting as well.

A product review is not a sales pitch, so avoid making it sound like you’re totally in love with the product. If it’s really that good, maintain your enthusiasm but do let your readers know on it’s limitations as well.

To increase the clicks on your affiliate links, include screenshots of the product (if it’s a software) to let people get an insider’s view of how it works and the results that can expect from it.

If it’s an e-book or information product, let others know the results you’ve observed and recorded from using the techniques or secrets mentioned. Everyone loves something that works, but most people will wait to see if it works for others before deciding to buy it.

3) Presell With a “How To” Article

A “How To” article teaches people how to solve a specific problem or achieve a specific result. In your article, start with the problem or desired outcome, and give specific step and action that need to be taken to solve it.

Somewhere towards the end of the article, mention about how a specific software can help your readers automate or skip some of the steps mentioned in your article. Once people have discovered the solution, they still may not want to do it all by themselves. If the software you’re talking about helps them do it faster or easier, they will definitely consider buying it.

Your goal is to presell the benefit of using the software, and lead them to the affiliate product page. Don’t make your article a sales pitch or this method will not work as well. People want to buy, but they don’t want to be “sold”.

Try to work on a Wordpress platform as your blogging tool, as it allows you much more control and flexibility in promoting affiliate products, especially when your “catalog” of affiliate products grows significantly.

Using these three strategies alone, you can make a significant income promoting affiliate products. Focus on these and affiliate marketing from your blog becomes so easy you won’t believe the results.

How To Prevent The Termination Of Your Adsense Account

Analysts estimate that click fraud is about between 20-30 percent of the pay per click industry. It is a huge problem and Google has become stricter on this issue. Google was forced to pay refunds to their advertisers in many cases for that reason. So, although the most profound reason for termination of your Adsense account is clicking your website’s ads, there are other reasons for Google to terminate your account, you should be aware of.

Do not hide text in your web pages. The trick is old but still many use it. Using small text filled with keywords at the same colour of the background will not help. Google not only will terminate your Adsense account but also ban your website in the free regular listings.

Do you use page cloaking? You should reconsider. This tactic is about a script which redirects the webpage your link supposed to follow to another webpage. Extremely dangerous for Adsense strategies, they lead to termination finally and furthermore they will not list your website in regular listings also.

Link Farms. This is an extremely dangerous tactic which is useless at the same time. Google’s algorithms are so advanced that can detect immediately the instant massive link growth. Plus it’s highly possible to link your website with other banned website leading to your Adsense account termination. With this tactic you gain nothing but trouble. Avoid it at all costs.

Doorways. This tactic is similar to cloaking pages technique. It is about a web page staffed with keywords redirecting to another user friendly webpage with no content with the aim to get high ranking and get better targeted keywords in adsense account. It used to work at first when search engines were not so advanced. Now it has become dangerous and offers no benefit at all.

Content duplication. Although it is tempting to have many websites with same content in order to increase the possibilities of higher ranking and thus maximizing Adsense clicks, do not fall in the trap. Search engines check constantly the domain’s IP and registry dates. In addition the algorithms they have designed scan all their indexes for duplicate content not just whole duplicate web pages, but also duplicate phrases in the text. Google has already hundreds of thousands phrases in their databases, for detecting duplicate phrases.

The outcome is that tricking Google has become extremely difficult. You can Not trick them. They have the best software engineers and enormous funds to invest in advanced technology. That means they have the advantage, and even if you succeed to trick them for a while it will not last because they have the resources to track the fraud sooner or later. If you want serious checks from Google Adsense, you should forget the above “techniques” and focus on ethical promotion strategies, which must  incorporate unique content.

How To Prevent Comment Spam With Google’s No Follow Attribute

Putting up and maintaining a weblog of your own could be done for free or built into your paid domain site. Either way, whatever you put up on your blog becomes accessible to practically anyone on the World Wide Web. Your blog has the potential to gain many regular followers and once-in-a-while visitors, given that you deliver content that is relevant and interesting, making it an excellent medium for advertisement or promoting products, services, or other websites relevant to its general area of discussion. Thus, it is a reason for companies paying blog owners to publish their ads on their blog sites.

What happens, though, if a certain company or enterprising individual tries to get onto your blog through the comments page with an active link to their site? That’s what’s called comment spam, and a business enterprise can be the least of your worries when it comes to this underhanded way of getting Google search ranks up. Enterprising entities do this not merely to promote the site to those who access that particular comments page, but more importantly to increase their ranking in search pages to that the site will stay on top of the search return page.

Another version of comment spamming involves a website owner who only copies the content of his or her site from a different website that ranks high on the Google search page. That way, this dishonest site owner doesn’t have to work as hard, to promote the site and gain a considerable following. The good news is that, finding out if one’s site content has been copied, has become very easy, as copy detection programs can be found online. Now, let’s go back to the links problem.

Fortunately for blogs and sites that allow trackbacks and comments from others, Google has announced their development of a way to decrease the occurrence of comment spam. It’s a feature known as the “nofollow” attribute, which allows site owners to add an additional attribute in the form rel=”follow” to any href code active link. This added part of a href link commands Google spiders to disregard a link that leads outside of the host site. The objective of this new development is to keep those who abuse open Internet sites from reaping the benefits of their misdeed.

While distressed blog owners may rejoice at this good news, some may opt to weigh the pros and cons of this new feature. To a business owner, a positive implication of using the no follow attribute is that, he or she will be able to avoid freeloaders trying to ride on his own site’s Google ranking. Google’s new tag can offer you an increased control on the effect of a link posted in your site by someone else without your prior permission. This has the potential to increase the possibility of that someone moving on to trying other possibilities that will increase traffic for their website. When issuing comment spam loses its benefit, then the spammer can hopefully try other things that are potentially laden with honesty, for a change.

Also, the new development will help strengthen the notion that bloggers and site moderators must make an effort to ensure that links that lead to their site will not disappoint, and their content are beneficial to the users of that particular site hosting the link. In addition, site owners must try to focus on outstanding and read-worthy content that will have enough impact to the online community that other sites will want to provide a link to their site by their own choice.

Perhaps the only Internet users who will find this new attribute disadvantageous are those who have become accustomed to using comment spam as a means to promote their own site. However, it should instead be a challenge for them in putting up worthwhile content for their site, such that Internet users will be searching for their site by name, and not clicking on its link by accident. For best results, have the service add the nofollow attribute to links that other users themselves created, such as those within their comment, and the link attached to the name of user who wrote the comment. Other areas where the attribute can be used include visitor statistic sections, guestbooks, and referrer lists.

Among the first weblog software creators that signed up for this service are LiveJournal, Blogger, Wordpress, Flickr, and MSN Spaces. Users of these blog services and others need not do anything themselves. The free blog host only needs to keep the attribute version updated to ensure its full effect.

This concept of having better control over outgoing links isn’t all new, however. Forward-thinking programmers have been able to devise ways to prevent search engine spiders from detecting outgoing links for quite a while. Yet this new Google tag gives power to the common website owner over his or her site’s outgoing links.
Some may have doubts on the effectiveness of this new service. One notion is that this will not be fully efficient unless it becomes a default option for bloggers and webmasters. Perhaps it also does not help that there are skeptics, not to mention dishonest users that will try to get past this obstacle and even devise a tougher-to-beat approach to comment spamming and link campaigns.

In addition, those who do gain in search engine ranking through referral links by those who really, wholeheartedly support their site have the most to lose. The possibility of search page rankings being a thing of the past presents itself in this scenario. Then again, it would not hurt to pose a challenge to those whose sites and products have yet to gain popularity. Perhaps businesses need to make a habit of improving, and have faith that those Internet users, who know exactly what they are looking for on the web, will find them eventually and be satisfied with what they have to offer. Besides, the really great ideas are the one that stand the test of time.

How To Pound Out Killer Ads That Get Results

Writing effective advertising copy may not seem like an easy thing to do, but with a little information, insight and practice you can learn to pound out killer ads guaranteed to grab attention and get results!

Here are a few of my favourite tips and ideas. You can adapt them to your industry and your needs.

The starting point for creating an ad is either the product you want to sell, or the audience you want to sell it to. What are you selling and to whom do you hope to sell it?

Let’s say your focus is the product. Brainstorm a list, in writing, of every benefit and feature you can think of. Include all the wonderful ways the product will solve problems or enhance the life or business of the buyer.

Once the list is complete, prioritize the items by order of greatest value.

Next, think about your target audience. Carefully consider their needs, interests and expectations. Again, create and prioritize a list of all the reasons this audience could benefit from the product.

Now, go back to your list of product benefits and features and see if you can adjust the priorities to better fit the interests of this audience.

The next step is to decide what you want the ad to accomplish. Do you want to make direct sales from the ad? Or simply drive traffic to a website to do the selling? It is important to have a well-defined purpose. The more specific the purpose and the wording, the more powerful and effective the ad will be.

Alright, here we go. What is the most important benefit or feature of your product? Use that information in either your headline or your first sentence.

As you craft the body of the ad, entice your prospects with other high priority benefits and features. Be descriptive! Help your prospects visualize the product or its benefits. Use actual pictures or graphics where possible.

“Power” words can add punch to your ad copy. Words like Free, Easy, Guaranteed, Limited and New are effective in getting attention and motivating people to buy or respond. The use of You and Yours personalizes the ad and enhances its appeal.

You may want to highlight ways your product is different or better than other similar products, but do not cut down your competitor’s product! Instead, focus on the positive qualities of your product.

Use testimonials from satisfied customers, if you have their approval.

Finally, it is always good to go for the close – TELL the prospect what to do: “Order NOW.” “Visit our website TODAY.” “Act FAST!” “Quantities are LIMITED. Get YOURS now.”

Let’s review the key points of successful advertising copy:

- choose a specific product or service

- identify a targeted audience

- create a powerfully appealing headline

- focus on the top benefits or features

- highlight the advantages

- use “power” words and phrases to motivate

- use descriptive words to create visual images and appeal

- know what you want the prospect to do and TELL them

- use testimonials

You can also review other ads and marketing materials to pick up additional ideas and insight. Experiment with changes in your ad copy and track your ads to see which ones produce the best results.

It may take some trial and error to find the best formula for your ads, but remember this – practice makes perfect.

How To Post On Forums Effectively

There are a lot of great ways to drive traffic to your website and many of those tactics are absolutely free. In my experience, two of these strategies stick out from the rest. Between these two approaches, virtually any webmaster can build massive traffic to their website over a period of time. They are (1) posting on forums and (2) article marketing.

Posting on forums is the most immediate way to get traffic to your website. You can literally sign up for an account and put some posts on various threads and you could have traffic coming to your website an hour later. This article will look at a variety of details you should keep in mind when posting on forums. As always, there’s a smart way to do this and a less smart way. Our goal is to use the smart way.

The first step is to identify the forums you want to contribute to and I recommend doing a few Google searches with your primary keywords and the word forum. This will quickly identify the large forums in your area of expertise. And if the forum is coming up high on a Google search, it’s probably getting a ton of traffic and that’s exactly where you want to be. Be creative and use a variety of different keywords to ensure you find all the big forums you can contribute to.

Once you’ve created an account on a forum you’re interested in, be sure to spend a little time every single day contributing to the various threads. Posting a contribution to a thread can take as little as a minute or two so you should easily be able to post 6 or 7 in about 15 minutes. Now, don’t post anything unless you have real value to contribute. But assuming you have something valuable to say, you could build up hundreds of posts on a particular forum within a few months. And each of those posts is another way for someone to find your website.

The number of posts you’ve contributed to the forum is usually posted right beside your contributions and a large number of posts adds credibility to your future contributions. First, try to get over 50. Then 100. Then 500. And then 1000. As you accumulate more posts, the other people spending time on that forum will give you more respect. They’ll know you’re a regular contributor and an established member of the community.

When you’ve established some trust with the other forum contributors, start your own threads. This is a great solution to the fact that your contributions to other threads can quickly get lost in the mounting replies. If your post is number 17 of 32 total replies, most people will miss your brilliance as they scroll down to the bottom. Instead, you can start your own thread so your message is always sitting right there at the top. It virtually guarantees that anyone reading the thread will notice your piece of it.

It’s also worth noting that threads get pushed down the list as other people respond to other threads. Every time someone contributes to a thread, it puts that particular thread back at the very top, and that’s where all the traffic is. So if no one has contributed to your thread in a while, that might be a good time to log on and post another comment to your own thread, pushing it back to the top of the pile.

These are all little games you can play, always looking for ways to stay in front of as many people as you can. Visit Tactical Execution for a lot more information on precisely these tactics; simple things you can do to augment your exposure on the internet. Please take advantage of the resources available there.

How To Pick The Right Recruiting Service

In todays fast changing world, the importance of recruiting services has never been so clear. Many businesses still believe that they can hire their own employees without having to resort to such matters.

It is possible, indeed. Yet, with the growing demands of the industry, many corporations find it hard to recruit their own employees without any help from the different recruiting services. It is time for them to realize that they can no longer carry on the tasks of choosing their own staff.

In essence, recruiting services allow you to find some potential applicants for a particular position or job in your company. Recruiting services facilitate the recruitment process, thereby, accelerating the hiring of competent employees.

Recruiting services can be classified according to the type of services that the recruiter can provide. There are those that work for a particular corporation or company, while the others work for numerous clients known as the headhunters.

In some organizations, some companies can provide recruiting services on their own. They have a certain group of recruiters working solely for the benefit of the company. Most of the recruiters are assigned at the human resources department.

Conversely, some recruiting services are rendered by recruitment agencies working for various companies. They act as mediators between the applicants and the client corporations that they work for.

Recruiting Services

Recruiting services may vary depending on the type of recruitment and on the details of the recruitment process in conformity to the needs of the company.

One of the most common recruiting services is the executive recruiting. This particular type of service is perfect for companies that wish for a wide-ranging and complete hunt but still longs to be dynamically concerned in the recruitment process. This means that the company will still take part in the drafting of the job description, interviewing, scaling the position, etc.

There are still many types of recruiting services, with every kind focused on rendering quality services to clients seeking help in the recruiting process.

The Best among the Rest

With so many recruiting services available in the market today, choosing the best can be very tricky. Everything may seem applicable and appropriate.

Of course, not all recruiting services will work for all types of companies. Obtaining a particular service that does not match the needs of the company may only bring more harm than good.

To help you out, here are some tips in picking the right recruiting service for your organization.

1. Conduct some extensive research about recruiting services

Before you start looking for a particular recruiting service, it is very important that you conduct necessary research on the different recruiting services first. In this way, you will be able to identify the basics of recruitment as well as the different kinds of recruiting services.

Once you know their classifications, you can easily detect that ones can positively help you hire the best and the most competent job applicants in town.

2. Does the recruiting agency know your business?

To get the right recruiting service, it is important that the recruitment agency know exactly what your business does. In that way, they can easily identify the needs of your company and would simply provide you the necessary services.

The working relationship between the client company and the recruitment agency should be two-way, give and take relationship. It is not right that you just obtain certain recruitment services and wait for the results. It is the duty of the company to express its business profile as well as the companys needs.

3. Shop and compare

Not all recruiting services charge the same rate. These services may vary depending on the classification of the services and their functionality.

Hence, to get the right recruiting service, it is important that you try to compare different services from different agencies and choose the best in terms of function, details of the job, and the rates.

4. Investigate on their efficiencies

If a certain recruiting service sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Keep in mind that the quality of a recruiting service should not be based on how enticing it may sound but should be on its established reputation.

You can ask your friends about it and obtain quality referrals. Getting a recruiting service that has been tried and tested will definitely render good results.

All of these things will help you find the right recruiting service. Of course, the success of the recruitment process will still depend on the company, hence, it is best not to depend solely on the recruiting services.

How To Pick A PC Satellite TV Vendor

PC satellite TV is coming of age! There was a time when the only choices we had for media content were television, cable, and radio. Well, that is no longer the case. With the advent of high-tech software and faster Internet connections, we can now enjoy PC satellite TV from anywhere in the world. The only requirements are that we have the proper software installed, a reliable computer, and a fast Internet connection.

Many people assume that PC satellite TV requires big, bulky dishes that are nailed to the rooftops. This is not true. It is also not true that you need additional hardware or additional cards for your computer. In fact, all you really need is the proper software and this can be found from many online suppliers.

However, before you sign up with a supplier make sure you do some research first. You will want to know exactly what the total cost will be for the service. Some vendors will want some type of monthly fee in order to use their software. Do not fall for that. There are vendors that offer high quality software for a single, one-time fee, and those are the ones you should be shopping with.

You also want to get a sense of how much content you will be able to access. Some vendors offer literally thousands of channels for you to view at no additional charge.

If you love sports, make sure the vendor that you are considering offers the sports access that you will want. PC satellite TV that offers great sports and plenty of them is a huge benefit in that you will not have to go through the pay-per-view scheme anymore. You will be able to watch most of the big games and events for no additional charges. This can often lead to savings that actually pay for the membership fee with the vendor and then some!

But you also want to know about other content as well. What about movies and news? Does the vendor you are looking at offer access to children’s programming? Do they offer access to major channels such as HBO, Discovery, or the National Geographic Channel? Do they offer international channels from several countries or do they limit themselves to only a few? All of these are important questions.

By doing a little research you can find the vendor that best suits your needs. A good place to begin is with the people at PCTV. This is a branch of the well-known company, http://Pacific-Servers.com, and PCTV is currently offering a membership package that cannot be beat. The software is top-of-the-line and the service is fantastic. Best of all, prices are extremely affordable. In addition, PCTV offers some wonderful bonus gifts for those who sign up. Visit http://www.pctv.pacific-servers.com to learn more.
